Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney made a big political statement at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday (September 13) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The 75-year-old the U.S. Representative for New York’s 12th congressional district since 2013 stepped onto the red carpet in a Viktor & Rolf dress, which read “Equal Rights From Women”, a tribute to the 19th Amendment.
Passed by Congress June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote. Carolyn even added a sign to her bag which read “ERA Yes”, which encouraged voters and congressman at the time to vote the Equal Rights Act into law.
