The Foreign Office faced criticism on Sunday over its lack of clarity for British people with holidays booked in northern Italy and those in quarantine as the coronavirus escalated.
Around 16 million people, more than a quarter of the Italian population, are in a state of lockdown until April 3 as the number of cases of coronavirus - and deaths - continued to rise with 7,735 confirmed cases (up from 1,492 the previous day).
There have been 366 deaths and there are more cases of coronavirus in Italy than any other country outside of China - and the new death toll was a sharp rise from 133 on Saturday.
