Greenock to tell the story of Scotland's links to the transatlantic slave trade, an SNP MSP has said. Stuart McMillan said the historic port town had a long association with the slave trade through the sugar and tobacco industries of the 18th and 19th centuries - as evidenced by local street names such as Jamaica Street, Togo Place, Tobago Street and Virginia Street.Debate has raged in recent weeks about the role played by Scots in slavery following several high-profile Black Lives Matters protests.
The BLM movement has achieved widespread support around the world following the death last month of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
