La La Land is coming to the big screen once more in London this year, together with an accompanying full orchestra.The film is set to be screened at London’s Event Apollo on December 17 and, according to a press release, will be “accompanied by full orchestra performing its dazzling score live to picture.” Tickets for the event are available here.Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land told the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet. Sharon Van Etten and Julien Baker are set to cover Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins on a seven-inch single for the comic book series What’s the Furthest Place From Here?Each issue of the series, written by Matthew Rosenberg and illustrated by Tyler Boss, has been soundtracked by a seven-inch, with Van Etten and Baker to appear on the accompanying vinyl for the forthcoming seventh issue, due out September 14.The single will feature a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hurt’ by Van Etten, which she previously covered in 2020 for Suicide Prevention Month, and Baker’s rendition of ‘1979’ by Smashing Pumpkins. Preorders are available now via the Image Comics website.“Having Julien Baker and Sharon Van Etten record songs is really beyond anything we could have hoped for,” Rosenberg said in a press statement.“Tyler and I regularly listen to both of their work while making this book, so having them provide the actual soundtrack for the issue has been really surreal in the best possible way.”The comic, described as a “post-apocalyptic coming-of-age series”, is a blend of sci-fi, fantasy and comedy, with music a large feature throughout (it was named after a lyric from Jawbreaker’s ‘Accident Prone’).

An LGBTQ “conversion” app, created by the Malaysian Government, has been removed from Google Play after it was found to violate Google Play guidelines.According to the Independent, the app falsely claims to help the LGBTQ community “return to the right path.”The app also included a 146-page e-book about the “true experience of a gay man who migrated during Ramadan to abandon homosexual behaviour.”In a statement to the Guardian, Google said, “Whenever an app is flagged to us, we investigate against our Play store policies and if violations are found we take appropriate action to maintain a trusted experience for all.”According to Human Rights Watch, “successive governments in Malaysia have employed anti-LGBT rhetoric as a political tool, calling on LGBT people to ‘change’ their gender identity or sexual orientation to ‘return to the right path’ or risk retribution.”This is not the first LGBTQ conversion app removed by Google Play.
