Across the world, the harvest has traditionally been a time for celebration – an occasion when people gather and share, with every good crop seen as a gift. Here in the UK, while we still celebrate other key festivals, Harvest has fallen away, with the abundance of each crop no longer a matter of life or death. Now, though, weather extremes, conflict and increasing food insecurity loom large, and a successful and bountiful harvest is once again a reason to rejoice. With this in mind, Dandelion is inviting people to join in with Harvest, its reimagined new festival to mark this important stage of the growing season. The Dandelion creative project set out in spring this year to sow, grow and share good food, and to do so creatively in every part of the country, working alongside thousands of people and organisations who are already producing fresh fruit and vegetables where they live.Following the arc of the growing season, gardens have sprung up in unusual places, and have been the venue for talks, events and concerts alongside ripening fruit and vegetables.

In addition, futuristic controlled growing cubes alive with light and sound have travelled the country, been resident in schools, and toured on bikes to museums and music festivals.Children in over 450 primary schools have grown their own potatoes in 1,500 tons of specially made growing mix, while 75,000 free vegetable plug plants have been handed out to grow in people’s homes. Now, from islands to villages; towns to cities, it’s time to share the bounty of your efforts at one of hundreds of Dandelion Harvests.Don’t miss your chance to be part of Harvest weekend.
