Across the world, Muslims have been observing the holy month of Ramadan. It is the first celebration on the Islamic calendar, lasting four weeks, and includes fasting, prayer, giving and self-evaluation.
The fasting period always takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which follows the moon, unlike the Georgian calendar which goes by the sun.
It requires those who observe the traditions to abstain from food and drink, and, water, from sunrise to sunset. The period allows Muslims to focus on prayer, purification and charitable acts.
