Transport campaigners are celebrating after one of the busiest rail stations in Salford was given funding to improve accessibility.
The funds will be used to install a new lift at the station and it ends an almost five year campaign that saw residents, councillors and community groups call for funding to provide wheelchair access to their station.
Late last year Transport for Greater Manchester and Northern Rail tipped the Walkden Station as top priority to receive money from the Access for All funding initiative.
But the Department for Transport did not allocate funds to the station and two other stations in Greater Manchester were funded instead.
