Volunteers are being sought to take part in research that may help develop a new drug treatment for opioid dependence at a study in Manchester.

According to government research, around one in three adults report using an illicit drug at some point during their lifetime.

Public Health England reports that in 2019, around seven million people in England were taking prescribed opioid painkillers, such as tramadol and codeine.

Many people report recreational use of opioids. Leading clinical trials company MAC Clinical Research is now recruiting volunteers who have taken opioids for pleasure rather than for pain relief, in the hope that their research can go on to help people with opioid addiction in the future.
