Universal Credit monthly boost of up to £405 starts this week for thousands of claimants across the UK

Universal Credit claimants will receive a boost to their benefit payments of up to £405 a month from October 8. People whose benefit payments dropped when they transferred from one of the 'legacy benefits' to Universal Credit will get a monthly increase of either £120, £285 or £405.

The reduction in payment affected those who switched to Universal Credit from Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Housing Benefit or Pension Credit - if they were also receiving a top-up allowance called Severe Disability Premium (SDP).

At the time, claimants who moved from those legacy benefits to Universal Credit, were stunned to discover the amount they received was far lower than they had been previously.
