Two in five people struggling with debts have no money left by end of the month

Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) is warning that the country is facing a ‘cliff edge’ moment as it emerges from lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic.Publishing its manifesto for the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections, the charity revealed the impact Covid-19 has had on people financially.Analysis of complex debt clients helped by the charity over the course of the pandemic reveals that two in five people (44%) have no money left at the end of the month after meeting their living costs.A complex debt issue is where someone owes multiple debts - in total, these clients owe £31million with an average debt of £9,678.21.CAS is warning that this will only get worse for individuals and put a greater strain on public services if help isn't made.
