Heaton Park on Sunday night after a group tried to force entry to the park it can be revealed. Dozens of officers were seen entering the park, which is currently hosting the Lightopia festival, at around 10pm.

Riot vans were seen entering through the Sheepfoot Lane entrance near Prestwich whilst locals and visitors also said the police helicopter could be seen hovering overhead for around 45 minutes.

Police have now revealed the alert was sparked by a group of men trying to force entry to the park.However they say no one was injured and that no arrests were made with the group eventually agreeing to leave the site.In a statement released today Greater Manchester Police (GMP)said: "Officers were called around 10.10pm on Sunday 6 December to.
