Two warehouses which have stood empty since they were built in 2018 are set to be transformed into data centres as plans to convert them are approved.US firm Equinix has been given the go ahead to 'retrofit' the two units, Evolution 1 and 2, in Agecroft Commerce Park by Salford's planning panel.This new data centre, the company's fifth in Greater Manchester, will employ 125 full-time staff, according to planning agent Marc Watterson.Speaking on behalf of the company at a virtual planning panel meeting on Thursday, the town planner from Arup explained what a data centre does.He said: “Data centres are paramount to the operation of the internet and to modern businesses.
