The Trotters are poised to kick off their first season in the fourth tier of English football since 1988 and only the second time they have plied their trade in the division in their history.

Wanderers were relegated to League Two after the previous campaign in League One was curtailed early in light of the coronavirus pandemic.Bolton had been facing the likely prospect of relegation before the action was halted, but this was confirmed when the League One campaign was ended early on a points per game basis, with just the play-offs taking place.The Trotters are joined in League Two this season from the division above by Tranmere Rovers and Southend United.And coming up from the National League to the EFL are Barrow - the club winning.
