The BBC has issued a statement responding to the large deluge of complaints that it received after the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing.
The U.K.’s national broadcaster switched instantly into mourning mode when Prince Philip’s death was announced Friday. The BBC cancelled its regular programming and aired special coverage hosted by black-clad news anchors throughout the day.
Popular primetime shows such as the cooking contest “MasterChef” were supplanted, and the network’s music radio stations played instrumentals and sombre tunes.
