bill, HB 1233, sponsored by Rep. Jason Zachary (R-Knoxville), would require public schools to provide a “reasonable accommodation” — defined as a single-occupancy restroom or changing facility, or access to an employee restroom or changing facility — to students who do not wish to use multi-occupancy restrooms or changing facilities designated for a particular sex where transgender individuals might be present.

Under the bill, a cisgender student who provides a written request to administrators expressing their discomfort at sharing spaces with transgender individuals must be accommodated.
