For his latest work, he has turned inward to his own roots growing up in a Black West Indian community in London to cull five distinctively different but connected stories in Small Axe.
It is an anthology series that will be seen on BBC and Amazon Prime in late fall. But the first installment, Lovers Rock, was chosen to be the opening night film of the 58th New York Film Festival on Thursday.
