the social care sector in Scotland in the wake of the covid pandemic and is now calling on political parties to back it.The union wants the next Scottish Government to establish a publicly-owned and funded National Care Service to replace the fragmented existing system which is largely left to private operators.As well as a £15 minimum wage, Unite is calling for social care workers to be offered improved terms and conditions such as enhanced sick pay and consistent pension plans.It comes as the future of the social care sector has become a key political issue after the coronavirus pandemic exposed shocking conditions across several homes for the elderly in Scotland.Scottish Labour has backed the £15-per-hour minimum wage for care workers.
