Six suspects arrested following gunpoint muggings of schoolboys released 'pending further enquiries'

Thugs aged about 16 to 18 and armed with a handgun and machete stole mobile phones from the youngsters in Blackley last month.

Earlier this week police arrested six people - aged between 15 and 18 - on suspicion of robbery. They were interviewed and then released on bail 'pending further enquiries', a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed today (Thursday).

Extra police patrols have been deployed at home time around the Co-operative Academy in Blackley since the incident. After the children had handed over their devices, the robbers beat them up anyway.
