Scots job losses hit record high as thousands made redundant by Coronavirus

coronavirus pandemic has forced thousands of Scots out of work leading to record redundancy figures, new data has revealed. Around 30,000 people in the country lost their jobs in the three months to October - up from 5,000 between May and July, numbers from the Office for National Statistics have shown.

Shops, factories and hospitality businesses like bars and restaurants have been hardest hit. The figures were also up from 9,000 redundancies between February and April, and 6,000 between last November and January.It is the highest number seen since records began.Even the devastation of the global financial crisis of 2009 did not hit Scotland as hard.The previous record was seen between July and September this year, when 27,000 people were.
