Rebel Wilson Came Out Before a Publication Could Do It For Her

The Sydney Morning Herald published a column by journalist Andrew Hornery claiming that they had planned to "break the news" of  Wilson's relationship first—therefore outing her.

In the , Hornery said that the paper contacted Wilson, giving her a two-day window to respond before publishing the story. Wilson's Instagram post came shortly after she received the email from Hornery.

Facing backlash for what many perceived as a threat to out Wilson against her will, Hornery deleted the column, and on Monday, June 13, the paper from the journalist.  “I genuinely regret that Rebel has found this hard," Hornery wrote. "That was never my intention.

But I see she has handled it all with extraordinary grace. As a gay man I’m well aware of how deeply discrimination hurts. The last thing I would ever want to do is inflict that pain on someone else.”Wilson appeared to confirm that her coming out post was a result of the impending column.
