THE reopening of showrooms in Scotland will be good news for the car industry because most drivers still prefer to buy through them, according to a study.First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday that the nation was moving to phase two of easing the coronavirus lockdown.

This means car retailers – with outdoor entrances and exits – will be able to open from Monday, June 29.That comes after UK-wide research found that 76 per cent of car owners still get their vehicles from a dealership – with 52 per cent being newly registered and 24 per cent second-hand purchases. The numbers are even higher north of the Border, with 83 per cent of Scots opting to buy from a showroom – 65 per cent going for new cars and 18 per cent for pre-loved.
