South Ayrshire Council, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Astraius, the leading UK based, commercially operated horizontal ‘air launch’ company.The spaceport development — which anticipates the creation of 4000 new jobs — aims to see horizontal launches take place from 2023.Satellites, which weigh around 10kg each and carried via a rocket inside a C17 plane, will be launched into orbit and carry out activities including monitoring climate change, tracking deforestation and identifying illegal fishing or mining activities around the globe.The new deal capitalises on Prestwick’s unique set of attributes including its strong transport links, existing airport infrastructure, over sea take off and a strong heritage of.
