Thania Garcia The South by Southwest Music Festival has revealed the first round of performers for its 37th annual celebration, taking over Austin, Texas, from March 13-18, 2023.  The full list of artists appears below, but highlights include South Korean artists Balming Tiger and Beenzino, Calle 13’s iLe (Puerto Rico), Ladaniva (France), Max Cooper (England), Mightmare, Núria Graham (Spain), the Orielles (England), Otoboke Beaver (Japan), RVG (Australia), Son Rompe Pera (Mexico) and dozens more. Like previous years, the festival will host multiple events spotlighting the 191 emerging talents on the list — with this being the first of several announcements for its planned showcases that will span six nights.

K-pop collective Balming Tiger have shared their thoughts on the current K-pop industry.Last week, Balming Tiger performed at SXSW’s Tiger Den event, where they spoke to Rolling Stone about what K-pop is in their view and their hopes for the future of Korean music.“In our opinion, [K-pop] is not a genre because, in K-pop, there’s R&B, hip-hop and everything. So, you can’t really specify what genre it is.

Balming Tiger have shared their experience working with BTS‘ RM on their latest collaborative single ‘Sexy Nukim’.The alternative K-pop group recently sat down for an interview with DIY Magazinewhere they discussed the process of creating their most recent single ‘Sexy Nukim’, which features BTS leader and rapper RM.When asked about their experience working with the K-pop idol on the new track, which marked their first song with a featured artist, Balming Tiger shared that they had a “belief that RM could express it better than anyone else in this song”.“Until now, there has never been a principle that all songs should be completed only by our members. There was no feature in the songs so far because we thought it was our members who could understand and express our songs the best,” the group explained.

The Great Escape has announced 100 more acts for its 2022 festival, including Yard Act, The Amazons and Rebecca Black.The Brighton music showcase will return between May 11-14, having cancelled its 2020 and 2021 editions due to COVID-related restrictions. Organisers confirmed the first 50 performers for this year last September.100 more artists have today (January 27) joined the line-up for The Great Escape 2022.Appearing alongside Yard Act, The Amazons and Rebecca Black on the bill are Baby Queen, Lola Young, The Goa Express, Phoebe Green, Dylan Fraser, English Teacher, Balming Tiger, Honeyglaze, Joe & The Shitboys and many more.Organisers are promising that “there’s much more to come” for TGE ’22.

SXSW Festival has announced another wave of acts for its 2022 edition.The annual music, film and media event is set to return to Austin, Texas between March 14-20 after its 2020 and 2021 festivals were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.Yesterday (January 26) it was announced that Wet Leg will take to the stage at SXSW ’22 ahead of releasing their anticipated, self-titled debut album on April 8.Other additions to the bill include Big Joanie, Pom Pom Squad, Pillow Queens, Balming Tiger, Cassandra Jenkins, La Doña, Mélat and many more.
