Parks and open spaces in Greater Manchester are busier than before lockdown

Parks in Greater Manchester are twice as busy as before lockdown, data has revealed. The sunny weather and recent relaxation of lockdown measures has seen people flock to open spaces.

On May 25, visitor numbers to open spaces, such as parks and gardens, were 123 per cent above baseline levels. The data, from Google, has compared park visitor numbers during the lockdown to January and February this year.

The cold weather during those months may also have been a factor. But immediately after the lockdown was introduced, on March 28, visits to parks had dropped by 56pc - their lowest levels.
