Paisley care home bosses clean up act after inspectors found problems with infection prevention measures

Improvements have been made at Paisley care home after bosses were told they needed to scrub up on deep cleaning and infection prevention measures.Elderslie Care Home in Fulbar Road was graded as "adequate" by the Care Inspectorate in November.But in a report, inspectors said cleaning in some bedrooms needed to be improved and some staff should be washing their hands more to prevent the spread of Covid-19 rather than relying so much on personal protective equipment (PPE).Cleaners were also found to be stretched amid ongoing concerns about the level of staffing. But the latest report from the watchdog following a virtual inspection states steps have been taken to establish a deep cleaning programme and a review of housekeeping hours has been carried out.The report said: "The programme of 'deep cleaning' bedrooms and other areas was well established."The standard of this work was quality assured by the home manager and external managers, therefore ensuring that any deficits were picked up and rectified quickly."Housekeeping staff were required to keep records of all the cleaning that took place, including frequently touched areas.

Soft furnishings and other equipment such as occasional tables and cushions were also on these records."An audit had been completed relating to the quality of bed linen.
