‘Monster’ once called ‘monumental risk to public’ now released from jail and on a mission

A former gang boss who groomed children into organised crime gangs and ‘flooded the streets with guns’ is now looking to use his past for good and steer young people away from crime.

Sicarius McGrath was once labeled as presenting a “monumental risk to the public” but has now transformed his life. The 41-year-old was heavily involved in organised violence from a young age, from the mid-1990s until 2016, and was sent to prison multiple times including for intimidation, violence and in 2003 was caged for his role in setting up an illegal gun factory.

In 2016 he was sentenced to eight years behind bars for conspiracy to blackmail, controlling prostitution and possession of cocaine and a canister of CS gas found at his home on his arrest.

It was as contemplated his crimes from his cell in 2017 that his criminal lifestyle hit home. “I was sat in my cell and a programme covering the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones was televised, Little Boy Blue,” he said. “It brought me to tears.
