Italy has imposed a mandatory quarantine for millions of people in the country in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The extended isolation means that 16 million people will be quarantined in the north of the region. From 8 March, the Italian authorities extended the area of isolation to cover the whole of the Lombardy region and the provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini (all in Emilia Romagna); Pesaro e Urbino (in Marche); Venezia and Padova (in Veneto); Asti and Alessandria (in Piemonte).
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed a decree just after midnight which imposes the new rules, which will be in place until April 3.
