But in what he will hope isn't a sign of things to come, Carrick's first public appearance as United's caretaker manager got off to an inauspicious start.
As he tried to deliver his tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Spanish translation was being broadcast in the background, a technical malfunction in an era of Zoom calls and computer screen chats.
