Tesco store is a former Tory councillor and UKIP parliamentary candidate. Nigel Wright, who is facing up to 14 years behind bars after being found guilty of the twisted Bitcoin blackmail plot, first won a seat for the Conservatives in 2003.

The 45-year represented the Freshney Ward on North East Lincolnshire Council before switching to UKIP in 2010. He stood as a candidate for the Brigg and Coole constituency in the General Election but secured only 1,749 votes, Grimsby Live reports.

Wright was caught on camera after placing a jar of contaminated food on the shelves of the Lockerbie Tesco store in November 2019.

Wright, a married father-of-two, was convicted of contaminating jars of baby food with shards of metal in an elaborate blackmail.
