Neighbours voiced concerns after water in Collier Brook, Atherton, mysteriously transformed into a vibrant shade of green on Tuesday, March 16.
An eyewitness said he arrived at the scene to find the water had turned 'fluorescent'. The sight has also prompted jokes from some on social media, who have said the water reminds them of animated character and swamp ogre, Shrek.
