Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has dismissed claims the title race is 'back on' following Manchester City's draw with Southampton on Saturday.
The Blues were lacklustre in the 1-1 stalemate with the Saints and had fallen a goal behind with Kyle Walker-Peters opening the scoring after just seven minutes.
Aymeric Laporte's header levelled things with 25 minutes to play but City couldn't find a winner late on at St. Marys. With Liverpool closing the gap to nine points and having the luxury of a game in hand over the league leaders, Lawrenson believes that in itself isn't enough to deny City a second successive Premier League title. ''No'', the 64-year-old told Off the Ball when asked whether the title race is back on. ''I really think City are gone now.
I think you've almost got to forget about them and Jurgen Klopp is probably of the same opinion. ''Liverpool should carry on and try to keep churning out results but I think City are just above everybody, both figuratively and literally.
