Lanarkshire woman Sameeha goes to top of class at prestigious awards

A young Lanarkshire woman has been crowned as winner of the Enhancing Education award at the prestigious Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2022.Last year, at just 21, Sameeha Rehmen started her own social enterprise, Ubuntu Scotland to help increase equality in the education sector.The organisation offers support in five key areas: creativity, workplace, finance, mental wellbeing, and social interaction, and Sameeha has successfully taken the work of Ubuntu Scotland into primary and secondary schools across Lanarkshire and Glasgow to help educate teachers and young people.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Sameeha, of Stepps, works for the organisation alongside full-time employment, studying, volunteering and tutoring kinship kids.Now in its 16th year, the annual awards highlight the triumphs of young people in 13 different categories – from sport and the environment to enterprise and volunteering.

They shine a light on the invaluable contributions made by remarkable young people across Scotland.The winners were announced at a star-studded red-carpet ceremony at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
