Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Rangers, with the 27-year old shot-stopper adamant he didn't get a chance to show his quality. The keeper arrived in January 2017 after Mark Warburton splashed out £250k to bring him from Port Vale but by the time Steven Gerrard arrived 18 months later, it was clear the Englishman was on borrowed time and loans to Scunthorpe and Blackpool followed.

While the Hexham born shot-stopper did play in a few big games in his early days, including a match against Celtic and the League Cup semi-final against Motherwell, he didn't get a long run to deliver consistency of performance.

With others like Wes Foderingham always ahead in the pecking order it became difficult to build up the kind of form needed to be Ibrox number one.
