Hospice given green light for 'world class' new facility despite concerns project will rely on fundraising to fully meet costs

The proposals will see the current hospice demolished to make way for 40 new homes that will part-fund the project. The hospice, celebrating its 50th anniversary year, was built as an extension to the Victorian era St Ann’s Hospital, which became part of Cheadle Royal in 1887.

However, bosses at St Ann’s said it was never designed as a purpose-built hospice and the increasing complexity of people’s care needs meant a new facility had become essential.
