Heartfelt tributes paid to 'pillar of community' Scots teacher who died of coronavirus

Tributes have been paid to a "pillar of the community" Scots teacher who died from the coronavirus. Principal teacher of maths at Notre Dame High School in Greenock, Inverclyde, Gerry McHugh, died on Saturday after contracting the virus.

Colleagues and friends have rallied round to pay tribute to the 58-year-old community stalwart. He was admitted to Inverclyde Royal Hospital before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow before passing away.
