Health bosses explain reasoning behind testing in care homes after devastating new death figures

The foreign secretary has admitted there has been a 'distribution issue' in getting coronavirus test kits for care home staff and residents following mounting criticism about delays.

During the Downing Street press conference, Dominic Raab said the government has now 'expanded the eligibility' for tests, to include all residents and staff. "We have obviously had a distribution issue, there is no sugar coating the challenge we have had with that,” he said.

He said the government was doing “everything we possibly can” to improve supply and delivery. It came as Public Health England announced that a total 26,097 patients had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK.
