Two local Hamilton boxers gained recognition at the Western District Boxing championships last Saturday night.21-year-old Lewis Kerr, from Stonehouse, won the welterweight title at the high-profile event at the Holiday Inn, Paisley.The talented fighter produced a dominant performance to win every round as he beat Matthew McDonald, from Irvine, on points.17-year-old Taylor McVey, from Hamilton, finished runner-up in the featherweight division.
The youngster put up a resolute display but he lost out to Connor Lundie on the judges’ decision.Both boxers are trained by Jimmy Stirling, and son John, at the local Hamilton Boxing Club.
