Government helpline set up for schools to report rising Covid cases

133 schools across the region have now reported positive tests and the number is rising daily. The new 'dedicated' advice service has launched today, September 17, and means that instead of contacting local public health teams, schools, colleges and nurseries will call the helpline instead.

The government says this will free up the health protection teams to deal with more complex cases, such as special schools and boarding schools, or outbreaks where there is more than one confirmed case.

Set up by Public Health England, the Department for Education and NHS Business Services Authority, a team of advisers will be on hand to help decide what action is needed in response to a positive case, based on the latest public health advice, and work.
