Galston welcomes life-saving defibrillator which was used just days after installation

A life-saving defibrillator was deployed just days after being installed in an East Ayrshire town.The device was brought to Galston by the town's community development trust with support from charity St John Scotland.The equipmentt was placed at the Boys’ Brigade Mission Hall on Park Road and unveiled to the public just before Christmas.And it proved a timely arrival for, on New Year's Day, it was needed after an individual took unwell.The defibrillator was funded by the development trust with St John Scotland offering both financial support themselves and advice through their community defibrillator scheme.Galston Community Development Trust chair David Richmond said: “The trust were pleased to use money from the profit of the Galston Lottery to part-finance the public, 24-hour accessible defibrillator.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that matter to you.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now on iOS and Android."They are also grateful to the Boys' Brigade for agreeing to host the defibrillator on their building."Within a fortnight of becoming active, the defibrillator was used on New Year's Day and returned by the Scottish Ambulance Service the next day.

It was good to see that system operates well if needed."In addition, St John Scotland volunteers also offered a free CPR and defibrillator awareness session at the Mission Hall on Saturday, January 29 – helping folk learn simple bystander CPR and see how easy a defibrillator is to use.T
