A woman representing a far-right group is targeting a seat in Salford City Council after announcing her candidacy for election in the Walkden North ward.
Ashlea Simon, Britain First’s chief of staff, will go up against Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dems and Green who are all fighting for the ward.
The announcement has caused concern in some quarters, though. HOPE not hate, an advocacy group which campaigns against racism and facism, say they are not opposed to Britain First standing, as is their right to do so, but claim they are more opposed to how their campaign can bring negativity to the area.
They have said that far-right groups are fielding fewer candidates in the coming election than in recent years to 'focus their resources on seeking bigger results in fewer seats'.
