A disqualified driver smashed his car into a tree on a country lane - only to abandon his passenger and her leave her to die.

The man, who has never had a licence, already had 37 previous convictions for disqualified driving to his name. Liam Foster has now been jailed for three-and-a-half years, CheshireLive reports. The 45-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention, causing a death whilst disqualified, causing a death whilst uninsured and failing to stop following a collision.

The court heard that on the morning of October 8 last year, Foster was driving a red Ford Focus on Warmingham Lane, near Middlewich, with four passengers in the vehicle.
