Two criminals were caught in an affluent village with hi-tech equipment which can be used to steal expensive cars. Vadim Muntean, 31, and Semion Lazur, 28, were stopped in the early hours by police in Woodford, Stockport, near the former British Aerospace site.

Police had launched a surveillance operation following a 'succession' of burglaries and thefts of cars, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

Muntean, from Ancoats, and Lazur, from Crumpsall, were spotted by an officer at about 2.20am, on October 30 last year. They were in a blue Mazda which was driving at 'low speed', and the officer stopped them after his suspicions were aroused.
