evoke.ieRebecca Saunders spoke openly about the grief she has endured following the death of her daughter Clarissa as she appeared on Claire Byrne Live.
Three-year-old Clarissa was cruelly murdered by her father Martin McCarthy in 2013, who then took his own life to punish Rebecca.
In a move that will haunt her for the rest of her life, Rebecca agreed to let Clarissa be buried with the man who took her life, and now she is appealing to be allowed to exhume her child’s body and take it back to America with her.
Rebecca met Martin shortly after she arrived in west Cork as a teen for an eight week study-abroad programme in 2004 and gave birth to Clarissa in 2009, but later was seeking a divorce.
