CALL The Midwife fans were in floods of tears as TWO beloved characters were killed off in the brutal series 11 finale. Viewers were on the edge of their seats after a train crashed as it travelled from Chelmsford to Liverpool Street.

The train driver appeared to have suffered a brain haemorrhage which led to a devastating crash. The impact of the collision caused the train to become derailed and then smash into an oncoming vehicle.

With three main characters, Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter), Nurse Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) and Dr Turner, on board, fans feared the worst as they lay motionless under the rubble after the collision.

But they managed to escape the wreckage and were pulled to safety when Timothy Turner (Max Macmillan) altered emergency services to their whereabouts.
