'Bye Bye Birdie' Star & Teen Idol Bobby Rydell Has Passed Away at 79

Bobby Rydell has sadly died. The ’60s teen idol and Bye Bye Birdie star passed away at the age of 79, Variety confirmed. Click inside to read more… According to the report, the Philadelphian star’s cause of death was pneumonia.

He was famous for hits like “Volare” and “Wild One,” and sold over 25 million records. He toured as part of The Golden Boys stage production, along with fellow teen idols Frankie Avalon and Fabian.

In 2016, he published his memoir, Bobby Rydell: Teen Idol On The Rocks: A Tale of Second Chances. “I can’t complain at all about my career.

You know, it’s had its ups and downs, its peaks and valleys, so on, so forth. But I’ve survived through all of that, and I’m continuing to do what I really enjoy doing,” he previously said.
