Bruce Willis, 67, announces he is retiring from acting due to aphasia diagnosis

Bruce Willis has announced that he has been diagnosed with a brain condition and is retiring from acting.The 67 year old Hollywood legend has been diagnosed with aphasia – a condition which has affected his cognitive abilities.

A statement by Bruce’s family was shared on Instagram, announcing the news. It read: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him. “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. “As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that." The statement was signed off with: “Love, Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, & Evelyn.” According to the NHS, aphasia is when a person has difficulty with their language or speech.

It's usually caused by damage to the left side of the brain. Bruce was married to fellow A-lister Demi Moore for 23 years and together they share daughters Rumer, Scout, Tallulah.

He is also dad to two daughters with his second wife, Emma Heming Willis. Bruce’s lengthy and hugely successful career has seen him star in many hit films such as Pulp Fiction, Sin City and Armageddon.
