Ayrshire ice rink closure is met with dismay

Get the stories that interest you straight to your inbox every day with our personalised newsletterTwo figure skating clubs and an ice hockey club have been left dismayed by a decision to close Ayr Ice Rink and melt all the ice.The Post has learned that the rink owners, Ayrshire Curlers Plc, has taken the decision to close the facility to all users.But it could spell disaster for the future of ice sports in Ayr- as it’s now feared the rink won’t reopen until September 2021.It’s estimated that the closure will affect as many as 200 kids, whose ages range from two years old to teenagers.Several coaching staff, many of them self employed, are also affected by the shutdown.Curling, figure skating and ice hockey have been a major feature in Ayr.
