Former Wigan and Warrington centre Anthony Gelling has been found not guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm on his former partner.

Gelling, who now plays for Leigh Centurions, was found not guilty on Tuesday after a jury took just over four hours to deliberate before acquitting him of the charge following a three-day trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

The Cook Islands international returned to court to face the verdict less than 24 hours after being named as man of the match in Leigh's defeat to Wigan Warriors on Monday night.

The 30-year-old had already admitted to punching his ex-wife, Toni Mackey, in the face last February, but said he had done so in self-defence.
