Air gun pellet found lodged in stray cat's eye as Scots charity appeals for urgent vet bill help

Horrified vets have been forced to remove a cat’s eye after discovering he was shot with an air rifle in Glasgow. The animal, now named George, had been reported as a stray to Cats Protection who later found that a number of families had been feeding him for some time.

Sadly, they all assumed he had a home but after an unsuccessful appeal to find his owners, he was taken into the care of the charity on January 4.

The ginger tom, who is believed to be around 10-years-old, had a painful looking wound on his face which was examined by veterinary staff.But they were heartbroken to discover a pellet inside his eye, which sadly could not be saved.The Cats Protection Glasgow Branch, who are now caring for George, are appealing for help from members of the public to cover his costly medical bills.They said: “This is George, estimated 10 years old, reported to us as a stray with a sore eye as shown in the first photo, and an appeal to find his family was unsuccessful.“From what we can gather George has been in the same area of Glasgow for a number of years with a few people feeding him, but all thinking the same thing - that he had a family somewhere.“George was brought into our care on 4 January 2022 and admitted into the vet to be assessed.“It was during his assessment the vet discovered the gruelling truth with regards to his eye injury.

They found an air rifle pellet in his eye and sadly his eye had to be taken out.“George also has other health issues and will need more vet treatment over the coming weeks/ months.“We don’t like asking for donations, but due to the pandemic and the knock-on effect it has had on our fundraising over the past 21 months, which has resulted in a huge reduction of income to help support us and
