More than 29,000 people have been tested for coronavirus in the UK with 590 being confirmed as positive. This latest leap, the biggest day-on-day increase so far, has led the Government to move from the containment phase into the delay stage.
This means measures such as closing schools and colleges, encouraging people to work at home and limiting social interactions in a bid to limit the spread of the virus could soon be on the horizon.
On Thursday (March 12) the Prime Minister Boris Johnson chaired a Cobra meeting which was then followed by a press conference alongside chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty and chief scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance.
